Tuesday, January 25, 2005 It wasn't going to be a repeat of yesterday
Thick charcoal pin stripe pants, black Muse Earls Court t-shirt, thin woolen jumper, big black Jacket, scarf and gloves. I rugged up and faced the bitter cold this morning, and felt better about standing outside waiting for the tube. Yesterday it snowed. Only a little but it was snow. The Aussies and South Africans got all excited and ran out onto the roof of our new offices and stood there watching the few seconds of something new. And through the day it snowed lightly here and there. Sometimes you wonder why you came here and not the Carribean or something?
Its glad I'm An Aussie Day tomorrow. Interesting to see how things will pan out. I have half a day off to get my British Tax File number and then The Girl and I will probably go [if we make it] to the beach party on Trafalgar Square to celebrate. Tools - it fucken snowed yesterday and there's a beach party two days later.......
Lee Mack next week. Should be fun. Seeing Kevin Smith in London is what I'm looking foward to - can't wait.

Monday, January 17, 2005 An entertaining little jingle and worst [tele] movie ever?
First, a little London sing along about the Tube.
My obsession with eBAY is still at full force, and a week ago I received my Star Wars Holiday Special. A bootleg DVD of some horrifying TV special that aired after Star Wars around Christmas time to ca£h in on the excitement. Lucas claims he had nothing to do with it, other than oking the cartoon where Boba Fett is introduced. I'm hoping he is right. Yes the prequels have been slightly challenging but its a fantastic world to lose yourself in, but this is The Worst Thing I Have Ever Seen - and I haven't even finished watching it yet.
I'll give you a bit more of a review later. The other thing that scares me is at a Comic Book Marketplace yesterday I picked up the original un-aired Fantastic Four movie. The one voted by Wizard as one of the worst comic book movies ever - even worse than Catwoman I've heard.
Nothing like putting yourself through pain for pop culture.

Wednesday, January 12, 2005 Is downloading TV episodes bad?
I used to visit a site that had downloadable TV shows on it that I can't see due to the fact I have the staple free to air channels on my TV and can't afford to get a SKY [think Foxtel Aussies] box. I'm not one for downloading movies or music - but I can't say I haven't [Ihave a HUGE pile of live music I got off the net - but this is stuff from concerts where people can tape -- this is another post maybe....], but fair being fair, if the album is good, I'll buy it. So I'm looking for any site of a site that may help my Battlestar Galactica or The Batman requirements and came past The TV Torrent Debate.
Is it bad to download a TV show from the Internet? If I missed an episode of 24 [you miss an episode and you could be pretty screwed], no one in the office has a copy of it [which by the way is technically illegal anyway isn't it?] and said episode is sitting there on a site asking to be downloaded, what do you do? What do you do? Morally, should you leave it and watch next week and catch up or maybe read a synopsis off the web? Is it bad to download something that has already aired?
Then you ask - what about something that is shown in the US and is coming to the UK in a few months [or as with Battlestar Galactica the opposite], is this OK to watch it? Does anyone lose out here financially? Australia got completely and utterly fucked over with Smallville Season 2 and didn't get any of the second half of it even aired [you suck Channel Nine], so I got copies off the web and finished the season off on my PC. And now because I enjoyed it so much, I now own the second season on DVD.
So why not have the episodes downloadable on the web after airing? There is a limited audience who would download them, but it becomes legal then and less cloak and dagger bollocks. I bet it happens [you heard it here kids!] - every man and his dog is selling music downloads trying to kill off the file sharing, so since movies are probably too big for the moment, lets see the next move to be TV shows. Might kill off the DVD sales I guess, but charge a bit and in the long run it'll probably be comparible - add in special features for DVDs as the bonus to buying it.

Worked late but had a decent day, went for a run and then watched the end of the An Evening with Kevin Smith. Funny shit and highly recommend it to any fans out there.

Tuesday, January 11, 2005 Because my Mum said so
OK, I talked my Mum, Dad and sister to day which was great. All three of them sitting there staring into a little camera, thinking that their boy was taking notice of their gallivanting in front of the camera, and not reading through the 50 page proposal he had to do this morning. And yes, Mum and Dad and Kate - you had my full attention, so don't fret.
Back on track now.....mind wandering.....so they run me over the coals for not keeping this thing up to date. Yeh I know. Motivation is the key here. I watch movies or drink a lot then crash out in bed with a Battlestar Galactica or The Batman cartoon, then read some pop culture magazine, get a cuddle [CUDDLE dirty minds!] and sleep. My mind is far from the keyboard unless I'm searching eBAY for elusive CDs, DVDs and vinyl for my ever growing collection.
So I just thought tonight I'd talk up a bit of today and the last few so you feel that I'm getting back onto the wagon of truth, justice and the London way.... sharing my thoughts with the masses who read this.....hellllllooooooo [echo echo echo]. So I'm going to try and write more shit in here - maybe go a little deeper than my visit here, my pint there and wow how great/cool/shit/downright craptacular this thing was. Time to let the mind wander and as my Mum says I do, dribble more crap.
So we [that's me and my girl next to me SMSing in bed (beep beep beep)], are going to Bruge. That's Belgium for you non-geographical types. Chocolate and beer. And lace. Fucking lace - which in the top ten things in Belgium book that was bought today comes second to chocolate and above beer. This hurt a little. I spent some good [strong?] Aussie dollars in a Belgium Beer Cafe in my last year in Adelaide, and there was no LACE! No doilies under my pint glasses. I am appalled. I will be questioning the motives and the locals on their thoughts come February 25th. But I am excited. Out of London and into a foreign country, with people who don't natively talk English. Or Australian if you live in the part of London I do....... [groan]
Another joy to behold is that London pulls all the cool stuff. The stuff I used to read about and hope for some reason their planes would crash in Adelaide and they'd have to play their concert or visit our part of the world. Well Kevin Smith is coming to London to do a Q + A session in my town! For those who don't know Kevin Smith, I am yet again appalled with your lack of knowledge and I would head to IMDB and check out what movies he has directed and hire them. Or if you know my family, borrow them from the stash they have of mine. So Kevin Smith sells tickets and puts fans in a hall/theatre and gets them to ask him questions about whatever. This is basically stand up comedy from a guy who loves pop culture and directs some of my favourite movies, so tickets are a must-have. Coupled to that is I now have [won off eBAY] a DVD copy of his first Q + A tour he did, have just watched the first half and laughed silly, so I know it'll be a blast. Do I have the guts to ask him something? It'd have to be obscure enough that he'd think it was sort of cool, and it would have to be delivered without a hiccup so the embarrassing fear was not noticeable.... probably a comic book thing, or maybe a Star Wars thing -- something he's interested in and has ties to and would be keen to start some banter about.
So I have huge plans again for this little site. Updating this more often may help me cure my eBAY addiction, redesigning it [I have a new cool pic for the top bar] lets me think I still have artist skills and if everyone person who reads this leaves me a comment below I'll know that I haven't been forgotten already [sends guilt to make them forget who has been slack].
I also think I might still add all those photos and revisit December 2004 and part of January 2005 so I have a decent record of my time here.
Enjoy, and don't forget those comments, yet I still believe I write this to myself [sending more guilt!!]
Cheers.
