Wednesday, March 16, 2005 I'm back
I'm sitting here alone [the girl is in Holland for work], showered and a little stiff. After nearly 9 months I made it back onto the basketball court. One of our clients was told I played and said if we need someone, I'll send you an email. So two weeks ago I get the message and get all excited. I'd actually played two mixed netball games the weeks prior [first game back -- Best On Court!] and playing in runners was a slip-sliding affair.
So off to Oxford Street in search of high tops. Not a simple task, even in Nike Town they didn't have anything that fit my big hoof. But down the road from home, I found a decent pair. Does anything beat the feeling of your ankles snug - the memories just flooded back.
So tonight came and the gear was packed. Went to the arse end of nowhere, met with my mate and headed over. "Can you jump?" "A little.." "You're on for the tip then." So it began with a clean winning tip to our point guard and the first two of the game. It was good to be back.
Fitness wise I'm as good or probably worse than I was after I got my cast off when I broke my wrist -- tired at about 15 mins [stop chuckling JT]. So we won the game easily, I rebounded "like a man possessed" [I was just playing my game], and scored a few baskets all within my range which is under the ring. Include a decent defensive effort and one of my tip ins, I just came off the court glowing. Now everyone knows only one sport makes you glow, but being back on the court was just gold.
Best of all -- "OK mate, you passed the test. Wanna play fulltime?". SOLD.
Haven't really kept you all up to date for a bit - except for the snow and eBAY. Well fast track updates..
Went to Bruge [in Belgium]. Wow, a town you can walk all the way around that sells mostly beer and chocolate. Heaven. And there was a comic shop across the road from our hotel. Check out the scenery.
Saw Kevin Smith in a Picadilly Theatre doing a question and answer gig. Hilarious. I have the DVD of his first one which was done all over the US. This one was first in Canada then over to London. Both were filmed for the up and coming second DVD. And yours truly asked the big man a question [what was more fanboy for you - fighting Luke Skywalker or meeting Stan Lee], which had him ranting about how cool it was to fight with sticks and then show off to all his mates and family once the CG was in. I signed a release form so my question was sold to Universal and I'm likely to be immortalised.
Met up with Mark Millar again and the other comic geeks who head out when Millar is in London. I made sure I wasn't polaxed again like last time, and had a blast. The Girl showed up later and chatted most of the night with Mark - to the fact that he believes her name is perfect for a comic character he has in one of his up and coming stories. Isaid "if you use that name, I need to be at least stabbed by Wolverine in one of your issues". "I can do that." Immortalised again maybe? Next I need a small part in a movie....
Rocked my socks seeing the best band in the world on Sunday - The Mars Volta. Brilliant, even with the crazy fillers they do between songs. I'm sure they juts tire and try and conserve some energy for the fast ones. They are brilliant and nothing like you've ever heard before. Rock my world.
Got my Batman Alarm clock. The Bat signal lights up onto the roof after it talks. Perfect.

You're back all right - nice to hear you're back on the court. Never mind fitness, it never was a feature of your game ;)
Bruge looks awesome.
